Chelsea have completed the signing of French defender Malang Sarr on a free transfer according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 21-year-old Nice-born centre-back left his hometown club earlier this summer after spending 15 years with The Eagles.

It has today been reported that Sarr has moved to England where he has joined Chelsea. The player has signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge but will be loaned out by The Blues for the coming campaign.

The defender made over a century of first team appearances for former club Nice over the course of four years. Sarr graduated from the French club’s academy system in 2015 but spent a season with the reserves prior to making his first team debut.

Sarr is a French Under-21 international. The player has represented Les Bleuets at every youth level from Under-16 level upwards.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has every intention of moulding his latest signing into a first team regular at Stamford Bridge, however, The Blues boss believes that the player requires further experience at first team level to help him prepare for life in the Premier League. Lampard is likely to carefully watch Sarr’s performances away from The Bridge this season with a view to easing the player in during the 2021/2022 campaign.
