Chelsea have completed the signing of German international forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig according to reports on The Blues’ official website.
The 24-year-old Stuttgart-born frontman will link up with his new teammates in July once the 2019/2020 Bundesliga season has officially come to an end.
At this stage, the terms of the deal have been left undisclosed, although it is believed that Chelsea may have paid up to £50 million for the player’s services.
Werner started his senior career with hometown club VfB Stuttgart where he netted 14 goals in 103 games in all competitions. In summer 2016, the striker joined latest club RB Leipzig in a deal which smashed the club’s transfer record. Werner has bagged 93 goals in his four years at the Red Bull Arena.
During his time in Germany, Werner has broken a number of age-related records. He was the youngest player to net two goals in a Bundesliga match at just 17 years and 249 days while he is the the youngest player to reach 200 Bundesliga appearances at 23 years 268 days. With the player yet to really reach his prime, new club Chelsea have a player on their hands.
Werner is likely to most commonly partner English forward Tammy Abraham in the Chelsea attack next season.
