The Chelsea Development Squad have bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion by beating Arsenal 5-4 in a thriller at Meadow Park.

Midfielder Billy Gilmour grabbed a late winner for Joe Edwards’ side at the end of a rollercoaster match in the Premier League 2.

It was Arsenal who struck first blood in the match when Bukayo Saka fired in the opener but Tino Anjorin soon rounded off a tidy move to make it 1-1.

Chelsea edged ahead two minutes later when Daishawn Redan headed in a Charlie Wakefield cross before Josh Grant made it 3-1 a minute later when he bundled the ball into the net from a corner kick.

Dan Ballard’s header then reduced the arrears for the home side before Gunners striker Eddie Nketiah’s strike made it 3-3 at the interval.

Chelsea started the second half brightly and Callum Hudson-Odoi’s curling effort struck the post before Conor Gallagher’s sublime free-kick restored The Blues’ lead on the hour. The midfielder went from hero to zero in a matter of seconds as his loose back-pass let in Nketiah to make it 4-4.

Edwards’ men dug deep once again and Gilmour struck seven minutes before time to complete a thrilling win for The Blues.

Chelsea now go into the international break having won two of their last three matches in the Premier League 2.
