Chelsea will be looking to take a big step towards UEFA Europa League qualification when they face Hungarian champions MOL Vidi at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.
The Blues were 1-0 winners against POAK Salonika in their opening fixture of the competition in Greece last month and six points from two matches would leave Maurizio Sarri’s side in a very strong position with four group games remaining.
Chelsea go into the match with a number of injury concerns. Danish defender Andreas Christensen has been suffering with a bug and will be assessed prior to kick-off while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pedro may not be risked as they continue to build their fitness following short-term injury problems.
Blues boss Sarri rotated his squad for the first group game against POAK and rested some of his players who had enjoyed extended FIFA World Cups in Russia in the summer and he could opt to do similar again. This may mean that the likes of Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud could sit out of the match.
Opponents MOL Vidi were UEFA Cup finalists way back in 1985 under their former name of Videoton. On that occasion, they lost 3-1 to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Thursday’s fixture is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 2.
