Chelsea FC Women have been handed a challenging tie in the last 16 of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League with The Blues having been drawn against Italian club Fiorentina.

Emma Hayes’s side find themselves in the last 16 of the competition after beating Bosnian club SFK 2000 Sarajevo 11-0 over two legs in their last 32 tie.

The draw for the last 16 of the competition took place on Monday morning with Hayes’ side being paired with Italian club Fiorentina. Chelsea will face The Purples at Kingsmeadow in the first leg on either 17 or 18 October before travelling to Italy for the return leg a fortnight later.

The Blues’ last 16 opponents beat Danish club Fortuna Hjorring in the last round of the competition. Fiorentina won the first leg 2-0 in Italy before following up that victory with another win by the same scoreline in Denmark in the return fixture.

Chelsea have grown into the UEFA Women’s Champions League in recent seasons with Emma Hayes’ side going from being knocked out in the last 32 stage of the competition in their early years to reaching the semi-finals for the first time in their history last term.

The Blues’ have saved their best form for the cup competitions this season with five wins out of five.
