The Chelsea Development Squad have been beaten for the first time in four matches, falling to a 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool at The Recreation Ground this afternoon.

Joe Edwards’ side were behind from the second minute in Aldershot and they could not recover from their early setback to rescue at least a point.

Liverpool enjoyed a rapid start with home keeper Jamie Cumming being called upon within the first minute to push Liam Millar’s effort to safety. The Blues keeper was soon picking the ball out of the net when Rafael Camacho fired in.

Hudson-Odoi forced a save from Liverpool keeper Kamil Grabara before the visitors doubled their lead when Matty Virtue tapped in from close range.

Chelsea reduced the arrears early in the second half when Josh Grant fired in from six yards and Daishawn Redan was unlucky not to level the scores as he headed over from a Tariq Lamptey cross.

The Blues’ fightback was ended in the 68th minute when a Liverpool corner kick found Virtue who struck in The Reds’ third goal of the game from close range.

Hudson-Odoi and Martell Taylor-Crossdale had chances to reduce the arrears late on for Chelsea but Liverpool successfully saw out the match to win 3-1.

Chelsea are back in Premier League 2 action when they travel to Manchester City on 20 October.
