Chelsea Under-18s and the Development Squad were in pre-season action on Saturday with both sides going on to secure wins.

Andy Myers’ Under-18 side took on AFC Bournemouth at Cobham while Joe Edwards took the Under-23s to Gander Green Lane where they faced National League club Sutton United.

At The Blues’ training base in Surrey, a very youthful Under-18 side made easy work of their opponents, running out 6-0 winners.

One of the more senior members of the squad, Clinton Mola, netted a stunning goal from 30 yards out while the other five goals were scored by Pierre Ekwah Elimby, Armando Broja, George Nunn, Marcel Lewis and Ben Elliott who are all stepping up into the Under-18s this term.

In muggy conditions in Sutton, the Chelsea Development Squad were made to work for their victory and neither side could be split in a hard fought first half. The main talking point was a missed penalty kick with Luke McCormick having been denied by home keeper Jamie Butler.

The Blues eventually took the lead in the 53rd minute when Juan Castillo crossed for striker Charlie Brown to net from close range.

Chelsea had to wait until deep in second half stoppage time to make sure of the victory when McCormick played in Brown to complete his brace.

Both sides are back in action again next weekend against overseas opposition. The Under-18s travel to Belgium to face Anderlecht while the Development Squad will take on FC Porto in Portugal.
