New Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has completed his first summer signing by bringing midfielder Jorginho to Stamford Bridge according to The Blues’ official website.
Manchester City were thought to be keen to sign the Italian international ace but Jorginho instead opted to move to South West London.
It has been reported that Jorginho has signed a five-year deal with Chelsea and he will link-up with former boss Sarri once again in England. It is thought that the player may have cost The Blues around £50 million, making him the most expensive signing at Chelsea since Alvaro Morata’s arrival 12 months ago.
Jorginho started his career with Verona where he successfully broke through the club’s academy system to go on to make 96 first team appearances in which he scored 11 goals. In January 2014, the midfielder joined Napoli on a co-ownership deal and Jorginho almost immediately became an important first team player at the Stadio San Paulo.
Until as late as Thursday, it was believed that Jorginho was set to join Chelsea’s English Premier League title rivals Manchester City but the 26-year-old is said to have had a u-turn and agreed to move to Stamford Bridge with South West London being the preferred destination.
It has been reported that Jorginho will wear the number 5 shirt at Chelsea.
