England Women international midfielder Jess Carter has joined FA Women’s Super League 1 champions Chelsea FC Women according to The Blues’ official website.

The 20-year-old midfield ace joins Emma Hayes’ side from league rivals Birmingham City Ladies where she has spent the past five years.

It has been reported that Carter has signed a three-year deal at Kingsmeadow and she will link-up with her new teammates when pre-season training begins early next month.

Despite her young age, Carter possesses real maturity and leadership skills and she has held these qualities throughout her career to date. The youngster captained Warwick Juniors in her early teens before being spotted by Birmingham City who offered a contract to the player when she was just 15-years-old.

Carter had a fairytale start at her new club, winning the Player of the Match award on her debut in a UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Arsenal. The midfielder has since gone on to play an influential role for the Blues in all competitions and was a member of the side which were beaten 4-1 by Manchester City Women in last season’s SSE FA Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

Only Aoife Mannion and Charlie Wellings made more appearances for Birmingham City this season and Carter could be a reliable option for new boss Hayes at Chelsea.
