Chelsea striker Michy Batshauyi was on target for Belgium as they beat Costa Rica 4-1 in an international friendly in Brussels on Monday evening.

The 24-year-old came off the bench in his home city to net the fourth goal for Roberto Martinez’s side as they made easy work of Costa Rica.

It was the visitors who took a shock lead in the 24th minute when former Fulham star Bryan Ruiz volleyed a superb effort into the net.

Belgium were level seven minutes later when Dries Mertens tapped home from close range and they soon took the lead with Romelu Lukaku striking from a similar distance.

Martinez’s side came out flying for the second half and Lukaku netted his second goal of the game just five minutes in when he headed home from a Nacer Chadli cross.

Blues striker Batshuayi came off the bench in the 52nd minute and the Borussia Dortmund loanee wrapped up the win for Belgium 12 minutes later when he placed the ball beyond visiting keeper Keylor Navas after being played in by Lukaku.

Batshuayi’s Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard started the match for Belgium but left the field 20 minutes from time with a dead leg.

The Belgians have been drawn in Group G for the upcoming FIFA World Cup with Panama, Tunisia and England.
