Chelsea Ladies have won the FA Women’s Super League 1 title after beating Bristol City Women 2-0 at Stoke Gifford Stadium this evening.
Drew Spence and Jonna Andersson got the goals as The Blues went on to win the competition for the second time in their history.
Bristol City should have scored the game’s first goal just three minutes in but Millie Farrow struck her shot wide when she really should have at least tested Blues keeper Hedvig Lindahl.
The Blues went close themselves soon after when Spence headed wide. The attacker made up for her miss in the ninth minute when she nodded in the opener from a Ji-So Yun cross.
Ji then had a goal disallowed for offside before the South Korean and teammate Ramona Bachmann both tested home keeper Sophie Baggaley.
Bristol City’s most lively player was Farrow she forced an excellent save from Lindahl eight minutes before the break as Chelsea successfully held onto their narrow lead.
Fran Kirby had a good chance to score early in the second half but the striker’s shot was straight down the throat of Baggaley when she really should have done better. Erin Cuthbert sent an audacious effort wide of target before Lindahl twice saved well from Olivia Fergusson.
The second half produced less goalmouth action than the first period but Chelsea made sure of the win two minutes from time when Jonna Andersson connected with a Kirby delivery to add gloss to her side’s victory.
Baggaley tipped a Ji strike onto the bar late on as Chelsea went on to secure a well-deserved FA Women’s Super League 1 title to add to their recent SSE Women’s FA Cup win.
