Chelsea Under-18s’ quadruple-winning 2017/2018 campaign has come to an end with a 2-2 draw at London rivals Arsenal in the Under-18 Premier League.
Schoolboys Rio Campbell and Max Thompson got the goals for Chelsea as two very youthful sides battled to an entertaining draw at Cobham.
Arsenal took the lead shortly after the half hour mark when Blues defender Joshua Clarke put the ball into his own net but The Blues fought back just two minutes later when Campbell scored his first goal at this level of football.
The dead rubber fixture saw both sides field players from their Under-16 sides and it was to be Arsenal who again regained the lead after the break when Tyrece Briscoe teed up Yunus Musah to score.
Chelsea battled back to collect a point but had to wait until five minutes from time to get their reward when they were awarded a penalty. Thompson stepped up and held his nerve to successfully dispatch the spot kick to rescue his side a point.
Jody Morris’ Under-18s had already won both the southern and national Under-18 Premier League titles ahead of this fixture while they have also won the Under-18 Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup this term. The only competition which they failed to win was the UEFA Youth League, although they did make it to the final in Switzerland.
