Manchester United striker Anthony Martial could emerge as a shock summer transfer target for English Premier League rivals Chelsea according to The Telegraph.

The 22-year-old French international frontman has a little over a year to run on his current deal at Old Trafford, although Manchester United do hold a one-year option on the player.

The Red Devils are thought to be keen to hold on to Martial but it is unknown whether the forward wants to stay with the club. Should the player opt to leave Old Trafford, it has been reported that English Premier League rivals Chelsea could make an offer for Martial with Blues boss Antonio Conte looking to rebuild his squad.

Martial is thought to be valued in excess of £40 million by Manchester United, a price which Chelsea are said to be willing to pay. United boss Jose Mourinho is unlikely to be willing to let the player move to another English top flight club without a fight and Chelsea may have to put together a significant deal to persuade The Red Devils to part with Martial.

The striker joined Manchester United from French club AS Monaco in a reported £36 million deal in September 2015 and Martial has gone on to net 36 goals in 134 appearances for the club.
