Chelsea defender David Luiz is thought to be wanted by French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco according to reports by Metro.

The 31-year-old Brazil born centre-back has been sidelined by both knee and ankle injuries in recent weeks. The player is expected to return before the end of the season, although it is unknown whether he features in Blues boss Antonio Conte’s plans after a reported fall out in November.

It is now believed that French club AS Monaco are ready to move for Luiz in the summer should either the player opt to leave Stamford Bridge or Conte decide to sell him. The Blues are likely to want to recover most of the £34 million which they paid to Paris Saint-Germain for him in August 2016 and AS Monaco are likely to be willing to meet their demands.

Luiz is currently in his second spell with Chelsea. The centre-back won the FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League during his first spell at The Bridge and he followed those successes up by winning the English Premier League upon his return to the club last term.

The defender has made 197 appearances for The Blues and has scored 15 goals but it remains to be seen whether Luiz will pull on the famous blue shirt again in his career.
