Former Chelsea target Bacary Sagna has made the shock decision to join Italian Serie A strugglers Benevento on a short term deal initially until the end of the season according to BBC Sport.
The 34-year-old experienced French full-back has been without a club since leaving Manchester City at the end of the season following the expiry of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
It had been reported that Sagna was considered for a deal at Stamford Bridge in August however the proposed transfer was never agreed and the player remained without a club.
It has now been revealed that the right-back has signed a short term deal with Serie A’s bottom club Benevento, a side which have collected just seven points all season. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are facing certain relegation however Sagna could extend his stay at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito by a further year should the move prove to be a success.
The Frenchman had looked to be a realistic transfer target for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte last summer with Sagna having over 250 English Premier League appearances under his belt. However, it should be noted that the player’s success in England was a little limited with Sagna having never won a league title during his time with both Arsenal and Manchester City.
