Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is ready to up his pursuit of AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko according to Sky Sports sources.

The Blues boss was initially believed to be weighing up a combined £50 million deal for the Bosnian goal machine and AS Roma teammate Emerson Palmieri.

Chelsea have been unable to meet the Italian club’s valuation of the player so far in this transfer window and it is now believed that Blues boss Conte will look to offer £26 million for Dzeko alone. Any deal is likely to include a number of performance related clauses meaning that AS Roma would benefit further should Dzeko impress at Stamford Bridge.

A deal was rumoured to have already been struck between the two sides last week however those reports seem to have been nothing other than speculation.

Chelsea are in desperate need of another forward following the loss of goalscoring form of summer signing Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard has failed to score in any of his last six outings for The Blues as Chelsea have fired a number of blanks in both league and cup.

AS Roma frontman Dzeko netted an outstanding 39 goals in 51 appearances for The Magic One last season and has already struck 13 goals so far this term. Despite now being in his 30’s, the former Manchester City striker is showing little signs of age and there are many goals left in the player.
