Chelsea Under-21s have qualified for the last four of this season’s Checkatrade Trophy by beating Oxford United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Harvey St Clair, Daishawn Redan and Juan Castillo got the goals as Joe Edwards’ men edged closer to the final at Wembley.
Chelsea took the lead just 10 minutes into the contest when Redan had a shot saved by visiting keeper Simon Eastwood but St Clair fired the rebound into the net.
It was soon 2-0 to The Blues as Redan made up for his early disappointment when he produced a clinical finish leaving Eastwood helpless in the Oxford United goal.
Chelsea were unlucky not to add to their lead before the break with St Clair twice being denied by Eastwood as the half ended with a two-goal advantage to The Blues.
It was Oxford United who came out flying in the second half and teenager Isaac Buckley-Ricketts saw a sweet strike cannon off the post before Ryan Ledson and Josh Ruffels registered efforts on goal for the visitors.
Chelsea fought back and Callum Hudson-Odoi fired a weak effort on goal before Edwards’ men made it 3-0 when Castillo unleashed a wonderful curling effort into the net.
Ricardo Ferreira da Silva struck a free-kick just wide of the target for Oxford United late on but the Sky Bet League One outfit had no answer to their three-goal deficit as Chelsea marched on into the last four of the competition.
