English Premier League champions Chelsea are thought to be closing in on deals for AS Roma pair Emerson Palmieri and Edin Dzeko this week according to Sky Sports sources.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is looking to bolster his squad by making improvements in several areas and defender Palmieri and striker Dzeko could be the latest names on the Chelsea squad list.

It has been reported that both players are keen to move to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are likely to pay an initial fee close to £50 million for the pair with up to £10 million to follow should various clauses be met.

Brazil born left-back Palmieri has spent the last two-and-a-half years with AS Roma after joining the club from Santos on a loan deal which was later made permanent for around £2 million.

Striker Dzeko is well-known by Blues fans for his time with English Premier League rivals Manchester City. The 31-year-old Bosnian international forward scored 72 goals in 189 appearances for City during a four-and-a-half year stay at The Etihad Stadium prior to his move to Rome.

Dzeko won all three major domestic trophies during his spell in England including two English Premier League titles.

Should Chelsea agree terms with AS Roma for the two players, it is believed that back-up striker Michy Batshuayi could be drafted into the deal with the Belgian moving in the opposite direction.
