Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi was delighted with the hat-trick which he scored against Sunderland in a 5-0 win at The Hetton Centre.

The 17-year-old doubled his Premier League 2 goal tally for the season in the North East as Joe Edwards’ men dominated the match from start to finish.

The first goal saw the youngster’s dazzling skills beat the Sunderland defence before Hudson-Odoi crashed the ball into the net while his second saw him curl the ball over home keeper Michael Woud. The wideman then slotted home a penalty late in the match as Chelsea continued their good recent form.

After the match, Hudson-Odoi told the Chelsea Presser that he was pleased to bag a hat-trick.

“I’m pleased that we got the three points that we needed and I’m delighted to get the hat-trick” the winger said.

“For the second goal I saw the keeper off his line and as soon as I hit it, I knew it was going in.

“For the third one I wanted my hat-trick and was begging to take it.”

With the player in good goalscoring form and with the senior side having failed to score in three matches, there has been some calls for Hudson-Odoi to be given a chance in the FA Cup Third Round replay with Norwich City at Stamford Bridge in midweek. The youngster said that he is unsure of what the immediate future holds for him with further Premier League 2 experience or a loan move away from the club possible.

“You never know what is going to happen until deadline day” the player admitted when talking about whether he will be continuing his development with Chelsea.

“I just want to continue to play here at the moment and you never know what can happen.

“I want to keep focussing on what I am doing here and if I get an offer of a loan move I will consider things from there.”

Hudson-Odoi has made four appearances for Chelsea in the Checkatrade Trophy this season in which he has scored an impressive four goals. The player has made the first team substitutes bench this season but is yet to make his debut for Antonio Conte’s side.
