Chelsea Ladies striker Fran Kirby has been awarded the FA Women’s Super League 1 Player of the Month award for December according to The Blues’ official website.

The 24-year-old England international, who was once nicknamed ‘Mini Messi’ was on fire for The Blues as Emma Hayes’ side reached the Continental Tyres Cup semi-finals.

Kirby bagged six goals in three games during the month which impressed the judging panel enough to hand her the award.

The popular forward scored a penalty kick in the 8-0 demolition of Yeovil Town Ladies while she notched a brace against second tier club Tottenham Hotspur Ladies in a 4-1 win as The Blues finished off their group in style.

The quarter-finals saw Chelsea handed a tough fixture against Liverpool Ladies but Kirby made easy work of the Merseysiders as her 58-minute hat-trick helped The Blues qualify for the last four courtesy of a thumping 5-1 win.

Kirby finished the FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series as the top scorer despite missing the opening of the campaign through long-term injury and the player has taken her good form into this season. The striker has featured in all but one of Chelsea’s 15 games in all competitions this term with Kirby netting a hugely impressive 11 goals.
