Young Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen has signed a new four-and-a-half year deal with the English Premier League champions according to The Blues’ official website.

The 21-year-old Lillerod born defender has impressed for the South West Londoners this season following his return from his loan spells with German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Christensen has become a firm favourite of Blues boss Antonio Conte and Chelsea have moved swiftly to agree terms on a new long-term deal with the player.

Prior to this season, the Dane had made just three first team outings for Chelsea since making the step up to the club’s first team after breaking through from the academy system but Christensen has been fielded on no less than 22 occasions this term by his manager Conte.

Christensen’s excellent performances in a Chelsea shirt is thought to have already alerted a number of clubs from across Europe and The Blues have ensured that the player remains at Stamford Bridge by making the defender’s new deal a priority.

During his time away on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, Christensen won the German club’s Player of the Year award while he made 82 appearances for The Foals in which he netted seven goals.

News of the centre-back’s extended stay at The Bridge now means that Christensen has an opportunity to kick-on as the player looks to make a real statement of intent in the first team.
