Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter has agreed to join Sky Bet Championship club Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season according to The Blues’ official website.

The 20-year-old Carshalton born centre-back has made just one first team appearance for The Blues this season in the 5-1 EFL Cup victory over Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge and the player will now benefit from further first team playing experience on Wearside.

Clarke-Salter joins a Sunderland side who are in real danger of suffering a second consecutive relegation. The Black Cats are currently bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table and are two points from safety. Manager Chris Coleman is having to work on an extremely tight budget with quality loan signings possibly being the key to a more successful second half of the campaign.

Chelsea defender Clarke-Salter could take a winning mentality with him to The Stadium of Light. The Blues academy graduate won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with England in the summer while he has lifted the FA Youth Cup on three occasions with Chelsea and won the UEFA Youth League twice.

The defender made his Blues debut in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory at Aston Villa in April 2016 while Clarke-Salter spent a spell on loan with Sky Bet League One outfit Bristol Rovers last season.

Clarke-Salter is rated very highly by Chelsea and the player signed a new four-year deal with the club in the summer.
