Chelsea Under-18s have extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven matches with a 2-0 win over Reading in Berkshire on Saturday morning.

Goals from Marcel Lavinier and Conor Gallagher gave The Blues a comfortable victory over Reading at The Royals’ Hogwood Park ground.

There were few chances in the first half for either side. Blues youngster Billy Gilmour blasted a 30-yard effort well over while Reading’s Thierry Nevers was denied an opening goal by a superb save from Karlo Ziger.

Chelsea took the lead five minutes before the break when Lavinier found space in the box to rifle a loose ball into the net.

The second half started with Reading pressure and Nevers struck a chance wide before Ziger tipped Oli Pendlebury’s powerful shot over the bar.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty kick 17 minutes from time when Roberto Nditi hauled down Tariq Lamptey in the box and Gallagher stepped up to slot the ball into the net from the spot.

The home side were unable to rally in the closing stages of the match as Jody Morris’ men comfortably saw out the remainder of the game with a 2-0 lead.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday when Aston Villa are the visitors to Cobham in the English Premier League.
