Young Chelsea midfielder Jordan Houghton has had his loan spell with Sky Bet League One club Doncaster Rovers extended until the end of the season according to The Blues’ official website.

The 22-year-old Chertsey born midfield ace initially joined Rovers in August on a loan deal until 3 January 2018 after impressing with the club in a previous spell at the Keepmoat Stadium last season.

Houghton has continued to make an impression upon Rovers boss Darren Ferguson this term and the South Yorkshire club have again agreed to keep the youngster for the full season as they look to build on their good recent form in Sky Bet League One.

The player is a product of The Blues academy system but has never made a first team outing for Chelsea. Houghton has previously enjoyed loan spells with both Gillingham and Plymouth Argyle prior to his 18 months at Doncaster Rovers.

The former FA Youth Cup winner made 36 appearances for Rovers last season in which he scored one goal as the club were promoted from Sky Bet League Two. Houghton has gone on to add a further 22 outings to his tally for the South Yorkshire club this term.

Houghton joined parent club Chelsea at just eight years of age. The youngster has a bright future ahead of him and an extended stay at Doncaster Rovers can only benefit the player going forward.
