Chelsea have finally completed the signing of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley on a five-and-a-half-year deal according to The Blues’ official website.

The 24-year-old England international midfielder was close to signing for The Blues in August however a last minute change of heart from the player resulted in the deal falling through despite Chelsea’s best efforts to get it over the line.

Chelsea have now confirmed that they have finally completed the signing of the talented Liverpudlian and it is believed that the transfer fee paid to Everton is in the region of £15 million. Barkley is currently sidelined with a troublesome hamstring injury but the player is expected to return to action soon.

The midfielder is a product of the Everton academy system and the player went on to make 179 appearances for The Toffees in which he scored 27 goals. Barkley has long been linked with a move to a top club in a bid to further his career and the twice-crowned Everton Young Player of the Year now has his chance to flourish.

Barkley has put in some impressive performances for Everton against Chelsea over the years although the player has never got on the scoresheet against The Blues.

Chelsea have handed Barkley the number 8 shirt and the arrival of the player will certainly add to the competition for places in the middle of the park at Stamford Bridge.
