Young Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen is thought to be attracting the attention of Spanish giants Barcelona according to the Express.
The 21-year-old Lillerod born defender has finally made his mark on The Blues’ starting XI this season upon his return from a two-season loan spell at German Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Christensen has been preferred to Brazilian centre-back David Luiz in recent weeks, although the latter is now sidelined with a knee injury. Upon Luiz’s return to fitness, the player is likely to have to be content with a place on the bench with fellow defender Christensen proving to be a real hit with manager Antonio Conte.
With the Danish international having played a starring role for The Blues this term, it has been reported that La Liga outfit Barcelona are monitoring the player’s progress and the Catalan giants could opt to test Chelsea’s resolve with a surprise transfer offer during this month’s transfer window.
Christensen is a product of the Chelsea academy system after joining the club as an apprentice from Brondby IF. The player made three first team appearances for The Blues under former boss Jose Mourinho but was sent out on loan to prove his worth for the two seasons which followed his maiden senior campaign.
Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, Christensen has made 21 appearances for The Blues and the player could be about to live up to expectations that he will be the man to replace former favourite John Terry for many years to come should the club hold on to the highly-rated defender.
