Chelsea have returned to winning ways in the English Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion Albion at Stamford Bridge.

Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso were on target as Antonio Conte’s men kept up their good recent record on home soil.

The first half saw Brighton & Hove Albion sit back and defend resolutely while clear-cut chances for the home side were few and far between. Chelsea should have taken the lead on 18 minutes when Antonio Rudiger kept a corner kick alive but Tiemoue Bakayoko put his subsequent effort wide from close range before visiting keeper Mat Ryan saved well from a Victor Moses strike.

Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard both had half chances to opening the scoring but in truth, Chelsea struggled to break down a well-drilled Albion side in a goalless first half.

The Blues took the lead early in second half when Morata got his head on a Cesar Azpilicueta cross to score from close range. It could have soon been 2-0 to the hosts but Hazard fired just wide from a clever Bakayoko pass.

Davy Propper got a rare sight of the Chelsea goal but was unable to trouble home keeper Thibaut Courtois before Blues wing-back Alonso twice went close to scoring at the other end. It was third time lucky for the Spaniard on the hour mark when he found the back of the net from six yards to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

Chelsea were unable to test visiting keeper Ryan during the last half hour despite the best efforts of Moses, N’Golo Kante and Azpilicueta’s best efforts as The Blues were made to make do with a two-goal victory.

Chelsea are back in action on Saturday afternoon when Stoke City are the visitors to Stamford Bridge.
