Chelsea Ladies have agreed a deal to bring former midfielder Anita Asante back to the club when the transfer window reopens at the end of this month according to The Blues’ official website.

The 32-year-old London born former England international midfielder has recently ended a lengthy spell with Swedish Damallsvenskan club FC Rosengard.

After eight years playing on the continent in both America and Sweden, it has now been revealed that Asante has agreed to return to the English game with Chelsea and the player has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Kingsmeadow.

The midfielder started her career with Arsenal Women where she spent a decade after initially joining the North London club’s youth ranks. Asante was a member of The Gunners side which won a famous quadruple in the 2006/2007 campaign.

Asante snubbed the opportunity to stay at Arsenal to instead move to Chelsea in 2008 and the defensive midfielder helped The Blues to third place in the FA Premier League National Division in her only season with the club.

Since leaving Chelsea, Asante has gone on to represent Sky Blue FC (twice), Saint Louis Athletica, Chicago Red Stars, Washington Freedom and Goteborg prior to her spell with FC Rosengard.

The player will been allocated the squad number six on her return to Chelsea with the transfer officially set to be completed on 29 December 2017.
