Chelsea Ladies have agreed a deal to sign defender Jonna Andersson from Swedish club Linkopings when the transfer window re-opens at the end of next month according to The Blues’ official website.

The 24-year-old Swedish international full-back will end almost a decade of service with the Damallsvenskan champions when she makes the move to Kingsmeadow in time for the New Year.

Andersson is capable of fitting into Chelsea’s 4-4-2 formation at left-back however she can also operate on the left side of a back five.

The Mjolby born defender will bring plenty of experience with her to the FA Women’s Super League 1 with Andersson having won three league titles and three Swedish Cups with Linkopings. Andersson was part of the Sweden squad which reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s European Championships in the summer before her nation were knocked out of the competition by eventual winners The Netherlands.

Andersson won the UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship with Sweden in Turkey in 2012 while she has experienced European football at club level in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The defender could make her debut for Chelsea in their FA Women’s Super League 1 clash with London rivals Arsenal at Kingsmeadow on Sunday 7 January 2018.
