The Chelsea Development Squad returned to action after a two-and-a-half week absence with a 1-0 victory over National League club Leyton Orient in a behind-closed-doors friendly match at The Blues’ Cobham training centre on Tuesday afternoon.

One of Chelsea’s 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup winners scored the only goal of the game with Marc Guehi netting in the first half.

The Blues went close to opening the scoring against a youthful Orient side early on but Kylian Hazard could only hit the side-netting with a shot from a cleverly taken corner kick.

Chelsea took the lead midway through the half when Kyle Scott teed up Guehi to score with a neat finish before Harvey St Clair and Hazard (twice) went close to extending the lead before the break without success.

The second half saw Charlie Brown spurn a superb opportunity to score when he blasted over from close range from a Hazard cross.

Callum Hudson-Odoi also went close to bagging Chelsea’s second goal of the game while the visitors saw an effort strike the post late on as the match ended in a 1-0 victory for Joe Edwards’ men.

The Chelsea Development Squad are back in action on Saturday when they face Tottenham Hotspur at the North Londoners’ training ground in the Premier League 2.
