Chelsea Ladies have continued their glorious start to the new season with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool Ladies at Kingsmeadow.

Norwegian ace Maren Mjelde got the only goal of the match early in the first half as Emma Hayes’ side made it four consecutive wins without conceding in both the FA Women’s Super League 1 and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Chelsea almost took the lead within minutes of kick-off but Ji So-Yun was unable to find the back of the net with her shot from a Magdalena Eriksson cross.

The Blues didn’t have to wait long for their goal and in the 14th minute a Mjelde strike flew through a wall of players to nestle in the bottom corner of the net. Karen Carney and Erin Cuthbert then went close to extending the lead but were unable to find that all important second goal as the half ended 1-0 to the hosts.

The second half saw a Carney cross almost sneak into the net before poor control from Jess Clarke at the other end saw Chelsea let off the hook following some slack defending.

Siobhan Chamberlain was then tested by a long range Mjelde effort before Eniola Aluko was also denied by the Liverpool goalkeeper as the match ended 1-0 in Chelsea’s favour.

Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday evening when they face Bayern Munich Frauen in Germany in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 32 tie.
