The Chelsea Development squad’s patchy start to the Premier League 2 season continued with a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at Holmes Park on Friday evening.

The Blues conceded a goal in each half as The Foxes condemned Joe Edwards’ men to a fourth match without a win.

The opening stages of the match saw Sam Hughes and Luke McCormick both register weak efforts on goal at each end while Josh Gordon and Reece James both did the same soon after.

Leicester City took the lead 25 minutes into the match when Ahmed Musa capitalised on some defensive uncertainty between Trevoh Chalobah and Ethan Ampadu to race clear and tee up George Thomas to score.

Chelsea tried to respond but Miro Muheim could only skew a shot wide before McCormick was denied a penalty kick when he looked to be brought down in the box.

The Blues did start the second half brightly and Jacob Maddox saw an early effort deflected just wide before the home side grew into the half and Musa was denied a goal by an excellent save from Blues keeper Marcin Bulka.

Isaac Christie-Davies fired a shot over the bar for Chelsea before disaster struck 16 minutes from time when Musa again created a chance for Thomas and the striker made no mistake as he thundered the ball into the roof of the net.

Maddox and substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi had half chances to reduce the arrears late on but were unable to prevent Chelsea slipping to a 2-0 defeat.
