Chelsea youngster Charlie Wakefield has joined Sky Bet League Two club Stevenage on a loan deal for the remainder of the season according to Boro’s official website.

The 19-year-old Worthing born winger has featured for The Blues at both Under-18 and Development Squad level but has been permitted to go out on loan to experience the hustle and bustle of first team football.

It has been reported that Wakefield has been sent to Sky Bet League Two club Stevenage on a loan deal for the remainder of the current campaign. Darren Sarll’s men have started their league campaign with two wins and two draws from their opening four matches and Boro find themselves in third place in the Sky Bet League Two table.

Stevenage have been difficult to beat on home turf in recent years and the experience of playing his football at The Lamex Stadium will certainly toughen Wakefield up before his return to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Wakefield was part of the Chelsea academy side which lifted the UEFA Youth League in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 while the player was also an FA Youth Cup winner with The Blues 16 months ago.

The youngster has been with Chelsea since joining the club as a 12-year-old and Wakefield is contracted to The Blues until summer 2019.
