Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has completed his proposed move to English Premier League rivals Manchester United according to The Blues’ official website.
The 28-year-old Serbian international midfield anchorman has long been linked with a reunion with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and that transfer has now reached it’s conclusion.
It has been reported that Matic has signed a three-year deal with The Red Devils while the player’s contract could be extended by a further year. It is believed that United have paid around £40 million to secure the Serbian’s signature.
Matic leaves Stamford Bridge for the second time in his career. The midfielder initially joined The Blues from Slovakian top flight club FC VSS Kosice in August 2009 however the player made just three first team appearances for Chelsea and moved to Portuguese club Benfica just 17 months later with centre-back David Luiz moving in the opposite direction.
In January 2014, Chelsea resigned Matic in a reported £21 million deal from Benfica and the player has gone on to win two English Premier League titles and the League Cup with The Blues. The midfielder proved any doubters wrong in his second spell at The Bridge with Matic making 151 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.
Blues boss Antonio Conte left Matic behind as the club travelled to Asia on their pre-season tour earlier this month, effectively paving the way for his exit.
