Chelsea have today learnt of their three opponents in the group stage of this season’s EFL Trophy.

The Blues will field their Development Squad in the competition with the South West Londoners having again been invited to take part in the tournament as a category one academy.

The draw for the EFL Trophy group stage was conducted earlier today to include category one academy sides and it has been determined that Chelsea will face Bristol Rovers, Oxford United and Walsall in round one. All of The Blues’ fixtures will be played away from home meaning that Andy Myers’ side will travel to The Memorial Stadium, The Kassam Stadium and The Banks’s Stadium.

No arrangements have yet been agreed for fans to attend matches in the EFL Trophy, however, it is hoped that some crowds will be permitted with capacity restrictions in place.

Last season saw Chelsea’s youngsters again qualify from their group but their progress was halted in the last-32 stage as they slumped to defeat at Walsall.

The coming season will be the fourth year that category one academy sides have been competing in the competition. To date, no category one academy side has ever reached the final but Chelsea will be hoping to write new history.
