Chelsea’s winning sequence since the return of competitive action has come to an end with The Blues going down 3-2 at West Ham United in the Premier League this evening.

In a thrilling match, Willian’s equaliser had looked to have rescued a point for Frank Lampard’s men until Andriy Yarmolenko bagged a winner for the hosts at the death.

Michail Antonio found himself clear through on goal early on but the West Ham United forward failed to test Blues keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from a narrow angle before a powerful Ross Barkley strike was kept out by Lukasz Fabianski at the other end.

Chelsea were given a let-off just after the half-hour mark when Tomas Soucek bundled the ball over the line via the body of Antonio. Following a VAR review, the goal was disallowed for offside.

Lampard’s men were awarded a penalty kick three minutes before the break when Issa Diop caught Christian Pulisic in the area. Willian stepped up to take the spot kick and successfully converted from 12 yards.

The two sides were to go into half-time on level terms. Soucek finally got his reward for West Ham United as he powered home a header.

David Moyes’ side carried their momentum into the start of the second period and they completed a comeback in the 51st minute when Antonio made it 2-1 after connecting with a low Jarrod Bowen cross.

The Blues could have been 3-1 down moments later but Manuel Lanzini could only curl his effort wide before Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic went close for Chelsea at the other end.

The game produced a fourth goal and it was to be an equaliser for Chelsea. Willian struck a stunning free-kick which beat the leap of the wall and nestled in the back of the net via the woodwork.

Both sides searched for a winning goal in a frantic last 18 minutes. Unfortunately for The Blues, the decisive fifth goal was to land in their net. Antonio played in a perfectly weighted ball to Yarmolenko and he showed great composure to fire his effort home and claim a priceless three points for The Hammers.

Chelsea remain in fourth place as a result of the defeat at the London Stadium while they hold just a two-point advantage on fifth-placed side Manchester United.
