Chelsea are into the semi-finals of this season’s Emirates FA Cup after defeating Leicester City 1-0 at The King Power Stadium in their quarter-final tie this afternoon.
Ross Barkley netted the only goal of a keenly contested tie in the second half as Frank Lampard’s side confirmed their place at Wembley next month.
The home side had the better of the chances during the first half-hour with Wilfred Ndidi forcing Blues keeper Willy Caballero into action with a header before Youri Tielemans also tested the Argentine from range.
The best chance of the half for Chelsea saw Christian Pulisic take aim but his effort was pushed to safety by Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester City goal.
It was Chelsea who were to break the deadlock 18 minutes into the second half when Willian delivered a cross from the right and Barkley cleverly steered the ball beyond Schmeichel into the bottom corner of the net.
The Blues were arguably better throughout the second period and they managed the remainder of the game well as visiting keeper Caballero was largely left untroubled.
Barkley had a couple of half-chances to extend Chelsea’s lead but he could not direct either of his shots away from Schmeichel.
Lampard’s men were to win the game by the odd goal and they can now look forward to next month’s Wembley semi-final.
