Willian’s late penalty kick ensured that Chelsea defeated 10-man Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Christian Pulisic fired Frank Lampard’s men ahead in the first half before Kevin de Bruyne levelled matters early in the second period. Fernandinho was sent-off for Manchester City for a blatant handball on the goal-line before Willian slotted home the resulting penalty kick.

Pulisic saw an early effort saved by Ederson before Andreas Christensen also tested the Manchester City keeper.

The Blues opened the scoring nine minutes before the break when Pulisic rifled the ball home from range with the Manchester City defence scrambling into their positions.

Pep Guardiola’s side were level 10 minutes into the second half when N’Golo Kante fouled Riyad Mahrez and De Bruyne crashed home a stunning effort from a free-kick.

Olivier Giroud then sent a tame effort into the arms of Ederson before Raheem Sterling rattled the post at the other end with a powerful strike from outside of the box.

Substitute Tammy Abraham was brought on as Chelsea searched for a winning goal and The Blues were given a golden opportunity when Fernandinho was sent-off for handling the ball on the line. Willian stepped up and successfully converted from the spot, days after extending his contract until the end of the season.

Pedro went close to making it 3-1 in second half injury time but Ederson produced a save as Chelsea had to make do with the one-goal winning margin.

The result means that Liverpool are the 2019/2020 Premier League champions.
