Chelsea have stepped up their preparations for next weekend’s long-awaited Premier League return by defeating Sky Bet Championship club Queens Park Rangers 7-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly fixture at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

There were doubles for midfield pair Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour while Mason Mount, Willian and Olivier Giroud were also on target for The Blues in the rout.

The first half saw Chelsea race into an emphatic 4-1 lead against their second tier opponents with Mount, Willian, Loftus-Cheek and Giroud all on-target. The second half brought another goal for Loftus-Cheek while young Scot Gilmour grabbed a double late in the game.

The fixture saw Chelsea take on opponents at Stamford Bridge for the first time since defeating Everton 4-0 in early March. Frank Lampard’s men played an internal warm-up match at The Bridge a little over a week ago while they beat Reading 1-0 at Cobham in a behind-closed-doors friendly fixture on Wednesday.

Chelsea will finally return to Premier League action next Sunday when they travel to Villa Park to take on struggling Aston Villa. The Blues will resume the campaign in fourth place with just nine games remaining. Chelsea’s first home fixture will be against Manchester City on Thursday 25 June.
