Chelsea are thought to be in advanced talks with German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig over the potential signing of striker Timo Werner according to BBC Sport sources.

The Blues currently have four forwards on their books, those being Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Spaniard Pedro, who could leave the club this summer.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is believed to be keen to bolster his side’s attacking options this summer and it has now been reported that The Blues are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig over the potential transfer of German international forward Werner.

The 24-year-old Stuttgart-born goal machine has netted 31 goals in 40 games in all competitions for The Red Bulls this season while he is just eight goals short of the 100 mark for RB Leipzig.

Werner has been linked with a move to Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Liverpool, however, the latest reports indicate that the forward is poised to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

Should Chelsea manager Lampard be successful in bringing Werner to South West London this summer it will be his second impressive addition. The Blues boss has already acquired the services of highly-rated Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in a reported £33.3 million deal.
