Chelsea are being linked with Brentford winger Said Benrahma who Football.London claim is valued at £22.5 million by the Sky Bet Championship club.
The 24-year-old Algerian international midfielder has enjoyed a fine season for The Bees in which he has netted 10 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.
The player is being tipped for a future in the English Premier League with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard thought to be an admirer but is Brentford’s £22.5 million price tag simply too hefty for The Blues to pay?
With the Coronavirus pandemic having severely hit clubs’ finances during the last three months, the summer transfer window is set to be the lowest-spending window for some years. Transfers must be carefully conducted by clubs with little risk.
In the case of Benrahma, the winger has just 29 top division appearances to his name throughout his seven-year senior footballing career and despite his good performances for Brentford this season, a club of Chelsea’s stature opting to make a move for the player would be a risk that maybe shouldn’t be taken at this time.
Should Chelsea boss Lampard have any money to spend this summer, he must get his signings right. Benrahma seems a bit of a gamble with his lack of top flight experience which at £22.5 million is too much for the South West Londoners to wager.
