Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has impressed on loan in the Championship this season at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.

The England Under-21 international is being tipped for a bright future at Stamford Bridge and could follow in the footsteps of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi in breaking into the first-team in the future.

Frank Lampard faces a tough decision on what to do with him next season and another loan spell away is likely.

Gallagher, who is 20 years old, is a product of the Blues’ academy but is yet to make a senior appearance, despite being a key player for their youth sides. He rocked up at Charlton last summer as an unknown quantity to their fans but soon hit the ground running.

He scored six goals in 26 games for the fellow London side and earned a winter switch to promotion hopefuls Swansea City until the end of the campaign.

It could be the case that Chelsea look to loan him out to a fellow Premier League side next season. He could be a useful acquisition for a lower-half side and that would provide him with the opportunity to impress in the top flight.

On the other hand, Gallagher could return to the Championship again and prove what he can do at the same club for a whole season. Or alternatively, could Chelsea loan him out to a club in Europe to see how he fares with a different culture and style of football?

The Blues have a lot of things to weigh up regarding the youngster’s immediate future. They need to ensure they do the best for his development.
