Young Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu could make his footballing return this weekend for loan club RB Leipzig.

The German Bundesliga is set to return on Saturday afternoon for the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic began.

Chelsea defender Ampadu is currently enjoying a season-long loan spell at RB Leipzig and he could be involved for The Red Bulls as they take on Freiburg at the Red Bull Arena this weekend.

The unfashionable German outfit currently occupy third place in the Bundesliga table after 25 matches, five points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. The Red Bulls have lost just three games all season, less than both sides above them in the league table.

Chelsea loanee Ampadu has struggled for game time while representing Julian Nagelsmann’s side. The former Exeter City academy graduate has made just three first team appearances in the Bundesliga to date while he struggled with a back problem prior to the two-month break.

With Ampadu having been hit with injury frustrations throughout his senior career to date, the player may have benefitted more than most from the interval and he is likely to be ready to play a part for RB Leipzig if called upon by boss Nagelsmann this weekend.
