There will be no more academy football for Chelsea’s youth teams this season with the Premier League having brought their 2019/2020 Academy Games to a premature end according to reports on their official website.

All competitions from Under-9 level up to Under-23 level have been suspended since mid-March and the Premier League have now opted to end all academy seasons early to provide clubs with some clarity.

Chelsea Under-18s were occupying third position in the Under-18 Premier League South table, four points behind league leaders Fulham. The Blues held a game in hand over their neighbours from down the King’s Road while they were just a point behind second-placed side West Ham United who had played a game more.

In the Division 1 of the Premier League 2, Chelsea led the table with just four games remaining. The South West Londoners held a three-point advantage over nearest challengers Leicester City. Three of Chelsea’s final four matches were set to be against the sides in the bottom four of the league therefore Andy Myers’ side were well-placed to lift the league title.

The Premier League will now determine a method to calculate the final league standings. At this stage, the results recorded so far will stand.
