Chelsea FC Women have agreed a deal to sign experienced Bayern Munich midfielder Melanie Leupolz on a free transfer according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 25-year-old German international midfielder will officially join The Blues once her contract with current club Bayern Munich comes to an end on 30 June.

It has been reported that Leupolz will sign a three-year contract with the South West Londoners and she will become Chelsea’s first signing of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The midfielder has UEFA Women’s Champions League experience under her belt from her time with Bayern Munich while the player has made 66 senior international appearances for the German national side in which she has netted a hugely impressive 10 goals.

Leupolz is currently expected to link-up with her new teammates when Chelsea begin their pre-season training programme ahead of the 2020/2021 campaign, although that may change depending on the current situation with the Coronavirus crisis with the footballing calendar now out of sync due to suspension.

The midfielder has spent the last six years with Bayern Munich during which she has won the Bundesliga Frauen on two occasions. Leupolz has also captained the German giants during the latter stages of her career at the club.
