Chelsea will not play another fixture until at least the first weekend of May with the English Premier League having announced an extension to the current domestic football suspension via their official website earlier today.

All elite football in England was suspended a week ago following the rapid Coronavirus outbreak while the UEFA Champions League has also been halted.

The initial indication was that the English Premier League would be suspended until 3 April, however, that ban has now been extended to cover the whole of next month with little progress having been made to win the fight against Coronavirus.

Chelsea are currently sitting in fourth position in the English Premier League table but they have nine games left to play to hopefully confirm their qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season. The Blues are still in Europe, although they are 3-0 down to German club Bayern Munich from the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.

Should Chelsea resume their season on 30 April, Frank Lampard’s side will next take on Norwich City at Stamford Bridge on the weekend on 2 and 3 May. The chances of that match going ahead are completely dependant upon whether the UK government can beat the threat of the Coronavirus.

The situation will continue to be monitored by the English Premier League.
