Chelsea are into the quarter-finals of this season’s Emirates FA Cup after defeating English Premier League leaders Liverpool 2-0 at Stamford Bridge this evening in their fifth round tie.

A horrible error from Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian gave The Blues the lead before Ross Barkley’s powerful second half strike made sure of the victory.

Chelsea went ahead early in the first half but Cesar Azpilicueta saw his header go just wide.

The Blues didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock. Willian took aim from distance and the ball deflected off Liverpool keeper Adrian before nestling in the back of the net.

Recalled Blues keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga then made a stunning treble save before denying Sadio Mane an equaliser as the first half ended 1-0 to The Blues.

Chelsea impressed in the first half and they again played well at the beginning of the second period and Mason Mount saw a shot cannon off the crossbar.

Frank Lampard’s men then doubled their lead when Barkley’s sharp strike flew beyond Adrian into the net.

The Liverpool keeper did make one impressive save to block an Olivier Giroud effort but that miss from the Chelsea man made no difference to the result as his side reached a fourth consecutive Emirates FA Cup quarter-final.

Chelsea will learn of their quarter-final opponents when the draw takes place on Wednesday evening.
