First team star Ruben Loftus-Cheek played 90 minutes as the Chelsea Development Squad defeated Everton 1-0 at the EBB Stadium in Aldershot this evening.

The midfielder won the penalty kick which was successfully converted by Luke McCormick to ensure the three points for The Blues.

A poor first half produced few quality goalscoring chances. McCormick’s daisy-cutter was easily gathered by visiting keeper Harry Tyrer before Henry Lawrence headed an effort wide. McCormick and Ian Maatsen directed shots off target later in the half as the first period ended goalless.

A Thierno Ballo shot warmed the palms of Tyrer shortly after half-time before McCormick saw a penalty shout turned down by the referee. Tariq Uwakwe twice went close, either side of Jon Russell’s failure to convert from close range.

Uwakwe then tested Tyrer with a free-kick before Loftus-Cheek headed an effort wide.

The match looked set to end goalless until Beni Baningime clumsily brought down Loftus-Cheek in the box and McCormick slotted away the winner from the penalty spot.

The victory sees Chelsea remain top of the Premier League 2 table.
