Armando Broja netted the only goal as Chelsea Under-18s defeated London rivals Millwall 1-0 in their FA Youth Cup quarter-final tie at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The forward netted just after the hour as Ed Brand’s side moved to within 90 minutes of reaching the final.

Chelsea started brightly at The Bridge and they thought that they had broken the deadlock in the 20th minute when they had the ball in the net but the referee deemed that Broja had committed dangerous play as he acrobatically fired in and the goal was chalked off.

Broja looked the biggest danger for The Blues and he wasted a good opportunity to break the deadlock after the half-hour when he shot wide from a Marcel Lewis cross into the box.

Chelsea finally opened the scoring in the 61st minute when Broja calmed controlled the ball following a Lewis free-kick and the player coolly found the back of the net.

Tino Anjorin had two chances to increase his side’s lead but he saw his initial effort saved before firing wide from his second attempt.

Visitors Millwall piled on the pressure late on but the Chelsea defence held out as The Blues set up a semi-final tie with either Manchester United or Wigan Athletic at Stamford Bridge.
