Chelsea face arguably their biggest test yet under Frank Lampard’s leadership when Bayern Munich are the visitors to Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League last-16 on Tuesday evening.
Bayern Munich won all six of their group matches which includes a 7-2 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in October.
Chelsea go into the match with several injury concerns. Midfield trio N’Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all been ruled out with their ongoing injuries while Ruben Loftus-Cheek faces a late fitness test on an Achilles injury.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to again miss out with experienced keeper Willy Caballero set to start in goal.
Bayern Munich arrive in South East London having narrowly beaten Paderborn 3-2 in the Bundesliga on Friday evening. The Germans are set to be without defenders Javi Martinez and Niklas Sule and forward Ivan Perisic for the first leg clash against The Blues.
Tuesday night’s visit to Stamford Bridge will only be Bayern Munich’s second-ever. The German club lost 4-2 on their only other visit 15 years ago with Frank Lampard netting a brace for Chelsea while Joe Cole and Didier Drogba were also on the scoresheet for the home side.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 2 and BT Sport Ultimate.
